Registration of Arms within the Order
As an international and independent organization the Ordo Equester Aurei Cervi (Inc.) has the ability to regulate the use of heraldry within its own jurisdiction. In the past a member of a Chivalric Order would, by the very nature of his status and way of life, have possessed armorial bearings as a matter of course. Although this is no longer the case, and no member of the Order is actually required to be or become a bearer of heraldic arms, it is desirable that the heraldic tradition should continue within the Order as an evocation of the Order's history.
The "Regulations for the Recording and Use of Heraldry within the Order" are published by Magisterial Decree no. 06/04, dated 20 March 2004.
The following family arms are eligible for recording:
- Noble Arms: being inherited or newly granted, originating from a Sovereign or Head of a Sovereign State, or in some cases from the Head of a non-regnant Royal House.
- Burgher Arms: Non-noble arms which have been granted as such or have been assumed and then recorded by a competent heraldic body of recognised standing.
- Assumed Arms: In certain limited circumstances arms which have simply been in use over a period or have recently been adopted without having been formally granted or registered may be recorded with the Order, as long as they conform to heraldic traditions of design.
According to the rules set up in the Regulations each Member has the right to have his personal arms displayed with the Insignia of the Order.
The King of Arms of the Order is responsible for the administration of all matters concerning heraldic arms, especially for the registration of Members' arms. He also designs new arms for adoption.
All Members interested are invited to contact the King of Arms by using the following forms:
